Appleは5月2日(米国時間)、「Apple, Google partner on an industry specification to address unwanted tracking - Apple」において、Googleと共同でBluetooth位置追跡デバイスの誤用を防止するための業界仕様案を公開したと発表した。Samsung、Tile、Chipolo、eufy Security、Pebblebeeがすでにサポートを表明している。

Apple AirTagといったBluetoothおよびクラウドネットワークを活用した位置追跡デバイスはアイテムやデバイスの紛失時追跡に大きな役割を担うようになった。一方、この機能は対象をトラッキングするための機能として悪用されるケースも出てきており問題視されるようになっている。

今回、AppleとGoogleが共同で策定した仕様はこうしたBluetoothおよびクラウドネットワークを活用した位置追跡デバイスの誤用を防ぐことを目的としたもの。位置追跡デバイスのベンダーがこうした仕様に対応することで誤用を防ぐことが可能になるとされている。

発表された仕様案はインターネット技術特別調査委員会(IETF: Internet Engineering Task Force)を通じてインターネットドラフトとして提出されている。AppleおよびGoogleはレビューおよびコメントを寄せてほしいと呼びかけている。
