Microsoftは12月19日、毎月の更新プログラムとは別に、Internet Explorerの脆弱性に対する、深刻度「緊急」のセキュリティ更新プログラムをリリースした。

対象となる脆弱性は「CVE-2018-8653 | スクリプト エンジンのメモリ破損の脆弱性」で、「スクリプトエンジンがInternet Explorerでメモリ内のオブジェクトを処理する方法に、リモートでコードが実行される」（日本マイクロソフトのWebサイトから）というもの。

悪用されると、リモートの攻撃者に、Windowsにログオンしているユーザーと同じユーザー権限を奪われる可能性がある。攻撃者に管理者権限を取得されると、プログラムのインストール、データの表示、変更、削除、完全なユーザー権限を持つ新たなアカウントの作成といった被害も考えられる。

なお、日本マイクロソフトのWebサイトでは「悪用の事実を確認済み」となっている。対象の製品とバージョンは以下の通りなので、早急にアップデートしてほしい。
